Welcome to The Thirsty Old Lions Website!!

Motto:Remember that Age and Treachery will always triumph over youth and ability

The Thirsty Old Lions Rugby Club is based on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland and were formed after many years of procrastination by the Father's of the Sunshine Coast Grammar School Junior Teams.

These Father's wanted more than to watch their son's play Rugby on the weekends. They needed "Pain and Suffering and Injuries and pulled muscles". After nearly 3 years of gathering lesser minded mates, effectively putting us all over the hill, the TOL's were born.

The year 2007 was our inaugural year and numbers quickly escalated to over 60 players.

The Thirsty Old Lions have evolved into the Sunshine Coast Thirsty Old Lions, with players now coming from all over the Sunshine Coast Region,Interstate and also from overseas countries like New Zealand,South Africa,Zimbabwe,Tonga,UK,Canada and Fiji who have called Sunshine Coast home.

The club also took part for the first time in the 18th Air New Zealand Golden Oldies World Cup Rugby Festival held in Sydney in September 2010. The boys played 3 games in the Grade 5 Division and won 2 and lost 1 game to the Argentineans.

Story of the tour was on the local daily: http://www.sunshinecoastdaily.com.au/story/2010/09/25/john-calcino-admits-he-and-the-rest-of-the-thirsty/

Home ground or TOLS DOME and "training" venue is now the Maroochydore Rugby Union Club on Fifth Ave in Cotton Tree, Maroochydore http://www.maroochyrugby.net.au/over35s.php which is within walking distance to the ocean, beach, river, accommodation, bars and restaurants.

  • During this period we discuss strategic moves, make game plans and watch videos of previous games.  No, we don’t, we just do what the Coach says……if he is there.
  • The Entertainment Social Kinship Yearn is pursued after training.
  • Officially known as ESKY.  Beverages provided at a nominal cost to TOLS members.
  • So please feel free to come down and have a run, it will be the best move you have made for a long time!!!.
